The Mainland has leapfrogged Japan to become the world's second-largest economy, a title that Japan has held for more than 40 years. The Mainland's rapid growth has given Hong Kong new opportunities as well as challenges. In the Twelve Five-Year Plan, a chapter is dedicated to Hong Kong which dwells on the significant functions of Hong Kong in the country's development strategy. It also signifies the Central Government's strong support for maintaining the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. In the meantime, Hong Kong has been an important testing ground for new ideas in China's economic reforms and the Hong Kong financial market is regarded as a platform for attracting investment, allocating assets and promoting the "go out strategy" of the RMB. With a prime location, a low and simple tax regime, free movement of capital, talent, goods and information, how can Hong Kong make use of its competitive advantages to reap the benefits of China's economic growth? Simultaneously, how can Chinese enterprises capitalize on the opportunities in Hong Kong and build a foothold for international expansion? These are the questions that the Hong Kong Management Association 2011 Annual Conference hopes to answer.
