ELSA - English Language Skills Assessment  ELSA – Listening & Reading

 Commencement Date: 28 Jul 2010 Deadline for New Application: 10 Jul 2010

This programme aims at helping participants to attend the LCCIEB/ELSA Workplace English Benchmarking Examination (Listening and Reading), The programme is divided into Elementary and advanced levels to meet the English proficiency requirements in different job types.

The participants will attend the ELSA examination after completion of the programme. Participants who have passed the internal examination with 70% attendance will be awarded with a certificate from the Hong Kong Management Association.


Eligible Participants
Essential Level low proficiency job types: taxi drivers, office assistants, receptionists, telephone operators. Participants normally should have form three English standard.
Advanced Level Clerks, secretaries, executives, administrators, associate professionals. Participants normally should have form five English standard.

Course Contents
The contents aim at all levels of ELSA examinations, including English listening and reading.

Listening
Essential Level

To understand the main points in a conversation and to improve pronunciation through listening to different subjects, such as general business greetings, telephone & reception, handling of payment and various transactions, route direction, simple business conversations.

Advanced Level
To enhance the students in English pronunciation and competence in listening and understanding through listening to various advanced level subjects such as business social activities and negotiation, telephone conversation under different situations and meetings.

Reading
Essential Level

To enhance the participants' competence in reading and analysis through reading various general working documents such as notices, instructions, memos, fax and all kinds of business graphs and tables.

Advanced Level
To further enhance the participants' competence in reading and analysis through reading various working documents such as business letters, agenda, reports, proposals and all kinds of intermediate level business graphs and tables.

Attention: The Funding Scheme will stop receiving applications for earmarking of fund to attend English courses offered in the market from 1 January 2005 or until all the remaining funds have been earmarked for applications, whichever is earlier. All applications would be processed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
