ELSA – Writing I & Speaking
Preparatory Course for Workplace English Benchmarking Examination

 Commencement Date: 12 Jul 2010 Deadline for New Application: 26 Jun 2010

This programme aims at helping participants to attend the LCCIEB/ELSA Workplace English Benchmarking Examination (Writing I and Speaking. The programme is divided into elementary, intermediate and advanced levels to meet the English proficiency requirements in different job types.

The participants will attend the ELSA examination after completion of the programme. Participants who have passed the internal examination with 70% attendance will be awarded with a certificate from the Hong Kong Management Association.

Programme Structure
The contents aim at all levels of ELSA examinations, including spoken and written English.

Elementary Level
Spoken English: Presentation of personal information, greetings/ requests, simple description of things/events, phrases used in everyday work and social events, spelling, experience sharing.
Written English: Basic grammar, frequently used words/ phrases in different job types.

Intermediate Level
Spoken English: Personal description, enquiry and reply to enquiry, expressing personal feelings, giving guidance and instructions, description of work, reception, work arrangement, words /phrases frequently used in work and social events.
Written English:Grammar and structure of sentences, business vocabulary and application.

Higher Level
Spoken English: Detailed description of personal background, analysis of event and presentation of personal opinion, higher level social English, discussion of news, sharing of experience, presentation of products/ themes.
Written English: Advanced level vocabulary and grammar, application of business documents.

Government Grants
Employees may apply grants by themselves or through their Attention: The Funding Scheme will stop receiving applications for earmarking of fund to attend English courses offered in the market from 1 January 2005 or until all the remaining funds have been earmarked for applications, whichever is earlier. All applications would be processed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Cantonese (supplemented with English)

Entry Requirements

Eligible Participants
Elementary Level
Low proficiency job types: taxi drivers, office assistants. Participants should normally have primary six to secondary three English standard.

Intermediate Level
Frontline service personnel. Participants should normally have secondary four to five English standard.

Higher Level
Receptionists, telephone operators, secretaries, executives, administrators, associate professionals. Participants should normally have form five English standard.

Application Period
For the year 2005, the programme will be scheduled in February, July, and November. Application deandline is normally set two weeks prior to the course commencement date.

HK$ 2520 (do not include examination fees for professional examinations)
