The Certificate Programme on Spanish, divided into FIVE levels, equips participants with different techniques and strategies in the four language skills (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking). Learning is through interaction with the teacher, internet activities and classmates. Topics that covered in this course are relevant to everyday life with grammar and pronunciation practice.

Participants are required to take an internal examination for each level at the end of the course. Those who satisfy 70% class attendance and pass the internal examination will be awarded a certificate by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA).

Instructor Profile - Mr Carlos Val

Over eight years in Hong Kong as a Spanish Teacher for students of all ages and backgrounds. Worked in primary and secondary schools. Instructor for adult courses in university. Taught in private tuition centres preparing students for the Spanish public exam DELE and others such as HKDSE, I/GCSE, ALevels, IB, etc. "As a teacher I love to witness students progress. Spanish I (西班語一)

This Spanish Introductory course is specially designed for people who have very little knowledge or no knowledge of the language. This course allows students to have a glimpse of the Spanish speaking world. At the end of the course students should be able to communicate in simple Spanish both at work and on holiday.

Course Content:
  • Learn how to introduce ourselves.
  • Greeting others, say hello and goodbye.
  • Giving and requesting personal details.
  • Asking questions in class. Resources for asking about words.
  • Vocabulary: alphabet, numbers, nationalities and professions.
  • Basic grammar: gender and number and the agreement of nouns, adjectives and articles.
  • Present tense: The three conjugations -ar, -er, -ir. Verbs ser, llamarse, tener.
  • Expressing intentions.
  • Explaining the reason why we do things.
  • Speaking about what we know how to do in different languages.
  • Grammar: Presente de indicativo, some uses of prepositions. Definite articles el, la, los, las. Personal pronouns. Qualifiers.
  • Vocabulary about languages, activities in the language class, leisure activities.

Total Hours: 30 (2.5 hours / session, total: 12 meetings)

Entry Requirements: The course is for people aged 16 or above, preferably with Form 5 English standards.

Spanish II (西班語二)
Course Content:
  • Discovering places
  • Expressing existence and location
  • Talking about the climate.
  • Grammar: verbs Estar (to Be). Some uses of hay. The superlative. Articles. Quantifiers. Question Words.
  • Vocabulary about weather, geography, tourist attractions.
  • Identifying objects
  • Expressing needs
  • Shopping. Asking for items. Asking about prices, etc.
  • Talking about preferences.
  • Grammar: Demonstratives. Question words. Tener que+ infinitive, Ir, Preferir.
  • Vocabulary: Numbers over 100. Colours. Clothes. Everyday objects.
  • Introduction to physical descriptions.

Total Hours: 30 (2.5 hours / session, total: 12 meetings)

Entry Requirements: The course is for those who have successfully completed "Spanish I" at HKMA or with equivalent qualifications.

Spanish III(西班語三)
Course Content:
  • Speaking about physical appearance and character.
  • Expressing and comparing likes, dislikes and interests.
  • Asking about likes and dislikes.
  • Speaking about personal relationships.
  • Grammar: verbs Gustar. Quantifiers, possessives, adjectives.
  • Grammar: some irregular verbs and reflexive verbs.
  • Vocabulary about family, descriptions, music.
  • Speaking about habits.
  • Expressing frequency.
  • Asking and telling time.
  • Vocabulary on Days of the week. Parts of the day. Daily activities.

Total Hours: 30 (2.5 hours / session, total: 12 meetings)

Entry Requirements: The course is for those who have successfully completed "Spanish II" at HKMA or with equivalent qualifications.

Spanish IV(西班語四)
Course Content:
  • Eating out in bars and restaurants.
  • Ordering and giving information about food.
  • Speaking about different culinary habits.
  • Grammar: The impersonal form of SE. Verbs Poner and Traer. Direct object pronouns (lo, la, los, las).
  • Vocabulary related to food, menus, cuisine styles, food from Spain and food from Latin America.
  • Describing districts, towns and cities
  • Discussing what we like most about a place.
  • Asking for and providing information on how to get to different locations.
  • Expressing likes and dislikes and emphasising different aspects.
  • Vocabulary on services and locations in cities. Adjectives to describe a district.

Total Hours: 30 (2.5 hours / session, total: 12 meetings)

Entry Requirements: The course is for those who have successfully completed "Spanish III" at HKMA or with equivalent qualifications.

Spanish V(西班語五)
Course Content:
  • Speaking about past experiences.
  • Speaking about skills and talents.
  • Speaking about people's good and bad points.
  • Grammar: introducing the past tense Pret廨ito Perfecto, and Saber+ infinitive, poder+ infinitive.
  • Vocabulary on Expressions of frequency. Adjectives to describe character.

Total Hours: 30 (2.5 hours / session, total: 12 meetings)

Entry Requirements: The course is for those who have successfully completed "Spanish IV" at HKMA or with equivalent qualifications.

Medium of Instruction Spanish, supplemented with English
