Wine Appreciation Workshop Series - Burgundy Wine


INTRODUCTION

The grapes of Burgundy are well known. The great reds are the result of only one grape - Pinot Noir, a delicate red varietal that is difficult to cultivate. The people of Burgundy have learnt how to master it and get it to reveal all its secrets. As for Burgundy's white wine grapes, the Chardonnay is king. The great white burgundies are the standard-bearers for the rest of the world.

Burgundy, possibly the most complicated wine region in the world and yet the region most wine lovers are keen to understand. This course will introduce the region through the grapes, the climate, the weather and the whole notion of 'terroir'. Wines tasted in the course will illustrate the complexities and seek to give clarity and vision through the maze of labels and classifications. A true wine lover should never miss this golden chance to explore such manna from heaven.

PROGRAMME FACILITATOR

Ian Symonds

Mr Ian Symonds has over twelve-year experience in wine education and training. He holds Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) diploma and is a WSET Certified Educator, Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS) and International Bordeaux Wine Educator. Mr Symonds is a member of the Hong Kong team for "Everyday Bordeaux" annual selection held by SOPEXA and is a member of various professional wine bodies such as The Wine Writers Circule (HK), Circle of Wine Writers (UK), Association of Wine Educators (UK), Federation Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains des Vins et Spiritueux (FIJEV), Institute of Wines and Spirits, The Hong Kong Wine Society and Society of Wine Educators (US) etc. He has been to wine producing regions around the world such as Bordeaux, Australia and Chile and would like to share his experience of wine with participants.
