As economic indicators point towards a recovery in Asia and as China's
prospective entry into the WTO draws close, Hong Kong is in a very
special position indeed to demonstrate our full potentials. We should
be capitalizing on this unique opportunity together with the economic
upturn in Asia. The Hong Kong Management Association's Annual Conference
this year has a most timely theme of "Developing a New Economy
for Hong Kong".
How Hong Kong businesses should prepare themselves for China's accession
to the WTO is an important topic on the agenda. The Conference will
also examine how Information Technology will form an intrinsic part
of Hong Kong's development into a new economy.
Of equal, if not more, importance in developing our new economy
is environmental awareness. The Conference will explore ways in
which the business community can work with environmental friendly
policies as well as the business opportunities brought about by
environmental protection.
The final ingredient for a successful new economy is, of course,
its people. How Hong Kong will nurture responsible citizens and
how we can retain an on-going supply of excellent talent with the
necessary training, to maintain a successful new economy, will be
discussed at the Annual Conference to be held on Monday, 30 October
2000 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. For registration,
