The Honourable Tung Chee Hwa at the HKMA 40th Anniversary Dinner

The Honourable Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government delivered a speech on "Human Capital for a World City" to over 850 members and guests of The Hong Kong Management Association at its 40th Anniversary Dinner on 22 November.

During the occasion, fellowships and charter memberships were presented. Fellows are individuals who have distinguished themselves in the management field either by example or by contributing towards the general body of theory, philosophy and management practice. Charter members are corporate bodies or companies which are admitted by invitation only.

New Fellows are Mr Roy Chung, Managing Director, TechTronic Industries Company Ltd; Mr Kwek Leng Hai, Chief Executive, Dao Heng Bank; Mr Richard Li, Chairman and Chief Executive, Pacific Century CyberWorks; Mr Albert Ma, Chairman and Managing Director, Hong Kong LP Gas (Holdings) Ltd and Sir Po Shing Wo, Chairman, Kailey Enterprises Ltd.

New Charter members include: Airport Authority, Computer Associates International Limited, Dao Heng Bank, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Gammon Construction Limited, Pacific Century CyberWorks, Lingnan University and McKinsey & Company Inc.

This year, Management Development Credit Unit Award-winning organizations are Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) and Bank of Communications, Hong Kong Branch. KCRC was awarded for sponsoring the largest number of training hours and staff members on the management training programmes organized by the Association. The Bank of Communications, Hong Kong Branch was awarded for the most significant growth in the number of training hours and staff members.

In addition, the Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) Graduation Ceremony was also held. Established in 1975, the DMS aims to meet the needs of in-service managers and executives who seek a formal education in modern business management. The Diploma is widely recognized by overseas universities as equivalent to a formal degree. Graduates are also granted membership or exemptions by a number of prominent professional institutes.
