The HKMA, ICTHM and MGSM Jointly Offer the Master of Management in Hospitality and Tourism Management Programme in Hong Kong

26/2/2004

In support of tourism development, the Government organized a series of major events last year so as to attract more visitors to Hong Kong. Some examples were the Arts Festival, the Rugby Sevens, the Hong Kong International Marathon, exhibition matches by world-renowned soccer teams and so forth. In addition, some major tourist attractions such as Hong Kong Disneyland, the Hong Kong Wetland Park and the Tung Chung Cable Car System will be completed over the next few years. The relaxation of restrictions on Mainland tourists under the Individual Visit Scheme has further boosted the number of visitors and rejuvenated the retail businesses and the service sector. According to the figures from the Tourism Commission, Hong Kong welcomed more than 1.64 million visitors in August 2003, representing an increase of 9.6% when compared with the same period in 2002. In November 2003, the number of visitors reached 1.68 million and the hotel occupancy rate increased drastically from 18% during the SARS period in May to 92%.

Addressing the increasing number of tourists, 24 new hotels are scheduled for completion within the next three years while another 35 hotel projects have received Town Planning Board approval.

Catering to the rapid development of tourism, The Hong Kong Management Association, in cooperation with the International College of Tourism & Hotel Management (ICTHM) and Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM), will be offering a Master of Management in Hospitality and Tourism Management in June this year.
