Club of The Hong Kong Management Association, the results of the 36th
Distinguished Salesperson Award (DSA) - - were announced on Friday, 11
June 2004 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Ms Salina Ip of PCCW Limited (Outstanding Young Salesperson Category)
and Ms Michelle Leung of PCCW Limited (Distinguished Salesperson Category)
were crowned with the Best Presentation Awards by Mr Titus Yu, Chairman
of the Sales and Marketing Executives Club, at the Distinguished Salesperson
Award Presentation Ceremony. The Guest of Honour this year was Mr Francis
Ho, JP, Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology (Communications
and Technology).
In addition to the Best Presentation Awards, a record of 96 local professional
salespersons were awarded the Distinguished Salesperson Awards (DSA) and
the Outstanding Young Salesperson Awards (OYSA) this year.
Originally launched in the United States in 1950, the DSA Programme has
been recognized by sales professionals worldwide as the standard of excellence
in selling.
The local version of the DSA Programme is divided into two categories
- the Distinguished Salesperson Award (DSA), and the Outstanding Young
Salesperson Award (OYSA) for promising young salespersons aged under 25.
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has been sponsoring
the Award since 1995.
“Those competing in this demanding Programme first submitted a 500-word
write-up, detailing their road to success and personal ambitions. After
an initial interview by the Organizing Committee, they were then further
examined by our Panel of Judges,” according to Ms Dona Chan, Chairperson
of the Organizing Committee of the 36th Distinguished Salesperson Award
Programme.
“At that final stage, they had to show their product knowledge, market
knowledge, presentation techniques, ability to convince, ability to build
up customer relations and ability to overcome sales resistance.” stressed
Ms Lee.
Ms Salina Ip and Ms Michelle Leung, the co-winners of the Best Presentation
Awards should therefore be considered the best of the best, especially
in a year when the number of DSA and OYS awardees reached a record of
96 in total.
Speaker for the ‘Presentation Skills’ Seminar this year was Cheung Kin
Ting, Film Director and Producer. The Panel of Judges comprised Professor
Andrew Chan, Director of Executive MBA Programme, Faculty of Business
Administration, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Mr Allan Chiang,
Chairman, Hong Kong Association for Customer Service Excellence; Mr Winston
Chow, Director, Hong Kong Jewellers’ & Goldsmiths’ Association Limited;
Mr Tony Hau, Chairman of Internet and Telecom Association of Hong Kong;
Mrs Angela Keung, President of Direct Selling Association of Hong Kong
Limited; Mr Ko Chi Sum, CEO & Producer of Spring Time Group Limited;
Mr Daniel Lai JP, Immediate Past President of Hong Kong Computer Society;
Mr Henry Lam, President, The Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong
Limited; Mr Michael Lee, Chairman of The Motor Traders Association of
Hong Kong; Mr George Lung, Chairman of The Outstanding Young Persons’
Association (03-04); Mr Victor Mok, Chairman of Hongkong Association of
Freight Forwarding and Logistics Limited; Mr Alex Tang, Immediate Past
President of Society of Hong Kong Real Estate Agents Limited; Mr Kelvin
Wong, President of The Life Underwriter’s Association of Hong Kong Limited;
Mr Michael Wu, Chairman of Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents; and
Mr Kelly Yu, Chairman, Hong Kong International Courier Association.
The Sales and Marketing Executives Club is one of the nine specialist
clubs under the auspices of The Hong Kong Management Association.
