Kum Shing Group Wins the Top Prize of the 2013 HKMA Quality Award

Results of the annual HKMA Quality Award, one of the most prestigious business awards in Hong Kong, were proudly announced by Mr James Thompson GBS, Chairman of 2013 HKMA Quality Award Organizing Committee; and Council Member of The Hong Kong Management Association, during the press conference of the Award held today (Monday, 22 July 2013) at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong.

Kum Shing Group was awarded the Gold Award in recognition of its strong commitment and distinguished achievement in total quality management. Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited was awarded the Silver Award and The Great Eagle Properties Management Co Ltd - Langham Place was awarded the Bronze Award. The Special Award for SMEs went to Inarc Design Hong Kong Limited.

During the press conference, Mr Thompson stated that "we are delighted with the quality of companies` cases entering for the Award. This seems to us a significant step in the quality journey within Hong Kong." Professor Matthew Yuen, Chairman of the Board of Examiners, further added that the Examiners were very pleased to note that, "all the four finalists have achieved high standard and the competition amongst them has been very keen."

Following are some brief but specific comments on each winner:

GOLD AWARD WINNER:
Kum Shing Group
Kum Shing (KS) is a Hong Kong engineering and construction business group with expertise in the provision of services for power system, electrical, building, civil, mechanical and lighting works. Its strategic planning process is structured and involves all levels of management. The company demonstrates outstanding capability in IT application. Information is available to the workforce and other stakeholders via a number of tailor-made platforms and portals. KS has also established a comprehensive working procedure of manpower planning to work out the current staff level and forecast the future manpower needs. Workplace security is achieved by implementing a comprehensive set of controls. KS has clearly demonstrated its strong commitment to quality, balanced and supported the interests of its stakeholders, and more importantly, to realize its vision to play a leading role in the management, operation, construction and maintenance of the city`s critical infrastructure to enable sustainable development of Hong Kong.

SILVER AWARD WINNER:
Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited
Hong Kong Broadband Networks Limited ("HKBN") is a world-class local telecommunications company. The company culture is promulgated through the senior leaders by aligning the goals and key performance indicators with Core Values ("TREE", Trustworthy, Responsive, Entrepreneurial, Engaging) and communicating the Core Purpose ("Making our Hong Kong a better place to live") and Core Values with all employees through a wide range of activities. It comprehensive approach to customer and market analysis has enabled HKBN to provide quality products and services that differentiate it from its competitors. In addition, HKBN has effectively fostered a culture and built an environment to encourage learning. For example, sponsorship will be given to employees to obtain their first university degree under the programme named "Next Station University". The senior leaders are committed to promote work-life balance in the organization. Under the strong leadership, the HKBN maintains a growth in financial performance.

BRONZE AWARD WINNER:
The Great Eagle Properties Management Co Ltd - Langham Place
Langham Place Management Office has in place a clear Vision and Mission. Its CREST acronym codifies the 5 core values (Customer Focus, Responsibility, Excellence, System Compliance, and Team Work) that the company passionately strives for. Senior management has proactively played role models in articulating the company`s commitment to its VMV. Its Quality Service Team and Quality Focus Group have drawn on information from all kinds of stakeholders. This enabled the company has an integrated perspective to understand the practical implications of the strategy. The Board of Examiners is impressed with the company`s determination to strive for performance improvement. Two specific departments have been set up to enhance its service quality and organizational performance. The company demonstrates a good TQM example to the property management service industry.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR SMES
Inarc Design Hong Kong Limited
Inarc Design Hong Kong Limited is a local design company offering interior design and architectural design services to leading local organizations and corporates. The company has well-defined Vision, Mission and Values. It fulfills its vision through quality design system and upholds its values via prudent working methodology. The VMV permeates to its employees, clients, business partners and stakeholders through a variety of channels. The company closely monitors the market to anticipate market changes and maintains its competitiveness. Inarc Design has won the heart of a number of top quality clients as reflected by the long list of letters of commendation and awards from different corners. The company maintains its high quality design by having a substantial number of experienced and loyal staff. Both revenue and profit are growing steadily with Inarc Design extending its client portfolio well beyond Hong Kong.

2013 HKMA Quality Award
The Association introduced the annual Quality Award in 1991 to give recognition to those companies in Hong Kong which have made a lasting commitment to quality and also to provide an opportunity for companies to share with one another their experience in Total Quality Management.
